Designing, Creating and Facilitating a recovery environment. We make it happen with you.

About the Conference

A small, hard-working group of peers based in Washington, D.C. came together to address trauma,  an overlapping issue that affected everyone involved. With The Campbell Center (established in 2007) at the helm, this group hit the ground running with a historical approach to addressing trauma from the consumer perspective.

The Historic 2013 Conference on Trauma: “Addressed Trauma Informed Care From the Consumer Perspective” the inaugural event brought persons with lived experience in justice, mental health, substance abuse, foster care and other behavioral health communities together with healthcare and community stakeholders and professionals. In a single forum we will collectively address the critical importance of issues impacting trauma, prevention, community behavioral health and the creation of a trauma informed system of care.  The event provided an opportunity to network as well as receive information on emerging topics relevant to trauma, health, alternatives to traditional treatment, and wellness. The Conference on Trauma brought together persons in recovery, peer specialists, professionals, and supporters.  With the opportunity to learn more about how trauma affects children and adults, learn about using WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) with trauma, intentional peer support and trauma,  and trauma from the LGBTQ perspective.

"We know the physical and psychological consequences of violence are highly disabling. The Adverse Childhood Experiences study, a general population study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Kaiser Permanente, is one of the largest investigations ever conducted to assess associations between childhood maltreatment and later-life health and wellbeing. Almost two-thirds of the study participants reported at least one adverse childhood experience of physical or sexual abuse, neglect, or family dysfunction, and more than one of five reported three or more such experiences."
